Panic for people with Bitcoins

Panic for people with Bitcoins. One of the largest Bitcoin exchanges has disappeared causing the price of Bitcoins to tank. One of the world’s largest Bitcoin exchanges Mt Gox website is gone. Reports say that the company may have experienced a major security breach and is about to go bankrupt. A leaked document shows that 744,400 bitcoins worth $350M have been stolen from the company.

Actavis to Buy Forest Labs

Actavis to Buy Forest Labs. Generic drug maker Actavis PLC (ACT) will buy Forest Labs (FRX) for approximately $25 billion in cash and stock. Actavis will pay $89.48 per share, representing a premium of 25% to Forest's closing price on Friday. The offer comprises $26.04 in cash and 0.3306 Actavis share for every Forest share. Actavis said the deal should increase its profits by double-digit percentages in 2015 and 2016, including about $1 billion in tax and operating savings.

Morning Coffee Pre-Market Wall Street News

UPS and the University of Virginia Blame Obamacare for Cuts. Both UPS (UPS) and the University of Virginia announced they would end offering medical benefits to family members of employees, blaming Obamacares increased cost as the direct cause. UPS in an announcement said it will cut healthcare benefits for around 15,000 working spouses of employees starting in 2014. The company said that it expects coast to the company due to Obamacare to increase +11.25%. In a memo the company also said that it expects that 35% of companies will also drop coverage of employee spouses.  The University of Virginia announced that they also will be dropping coverage of employee spouses due to direct cost increases due to Obamacare. The University said that it expects to pay $7.3 million more in 2014 due to Obamacare. Additionally, Xerox (XRX) is having employees pay $1,000 if they wish to keep their spouse on their current company medical plan, otherwise the company will be dropping them.

Omnicom and Publicis to Merge. 
Omnicom Group (OMC) and Publicis Groupe (PGPEF) have agreed to merger that creating the world’s largest advertising firm valued at $35.1B. Publicis Chief Executive Maurice Levy said "This is a new company for a new world," and went on to say "It will be able to face the exponential development of new internet giants like Facebook and Google, changing consumer behavior, the explosion of big data, as well as handle the blurring of roles of all the players in the market." Under the deal, Publicis shareholders will receive one newly issued ordinary share of Publicis Omnicom Group for each Publicis share they own, plus a special dividend of 1.00 euro per share. Omnicom shareholders will receive 0.813 newly issued ordinary shares of Publicis Omnicom Group for each Omnicom share they own, together with a special dividend of $2.00 per share.

Morning Coffee Pre-Market Wall Street News

Berkshire Hathaway Followers Ready for Pilgrimage.  Hordes of Warren Buffett followers are ready to descend on Berkshire Hathaway Inc. shareholders meeting this weekend. Prior to the meeting the company is expected to release their quarterly results. Wall Street analysts expect the company to report EPS of $1,995.50 per Class A share according to Thomson Reuters. One year ago for the same quarter the company reports EPS of $1,966. On Saturday Chairman Warren Buffett and Vice Chairman Charlie Munger will speak to the thousands of followers on topics ranging from the company’s performance, to the economy and general investing. Reports say that Hedge-fund manager Doug Kass will grill Buffett about Berkshire’s business. Kass is short Berkshire, meaning he expects the shares to fall in price. In a statement Kass said “My challenge is to ask some original questions, some that have never been asked, that might divulge new news and give people some insight.”
